Carissa Matsushima
Accomplice/Musical Genius
Carissa Matsushima is ever open to evolving, but so far in this life she is an experimental dance/theatre artist as well as, more recently, a singer/songwriter fronting her band, Carissa & the Voodoo Lilies. She's based in Philadelphia, but grew up outside of LA in West Covina, and then graduated from NYU's Experimental Theatre Wing with a BFA in Acting. She is currently a teaching artist for Theatre Horizon, pioneering online drama education for the youths of greater Philadelphia. Her mixed background as a half-third-generation-Japanese, half-second-gen-Mexican, totally Californian, multi-disciplinary artist informs but does not solely inform her work in performance, education, and community building. If not for the current pandemic, she would probably be throwing mini art festivals in her backyard with her best friends.
